Attended Sunderland's very first Gay Pride. It was a very fun and photographic day. Most of the people involved are close friends to me which made it easier to get some photographs.

Today I photographed my very first product. I've never got into product photography and didn't think I would enjoy it so much. I used a pop up background with one speed light external flash on camera. There isn't much post done to it, just cropped it a little due to my idiotic nature of composing like a mad man.

Photographing the runners of the Bupa Great North Run was a mix of emotions. It was a great day in regards to talking to the runners about their times, purpose and accomplishments. But a terrible day when thinking about the weather and the travelling home. I took roughly about 800 portraits but obviously I can't upload that many. These 6 will do for now until I upload more.

Above are two very random scans from a roll of 120 film. I recently bought a new medium format camera for dirt cheap (£3 from Seaham car boot to be precise). The roll of cheap film was exposed purely to test its function and what the quality was like. Since the whole role came out perfectly exposed providing great tones, I think it was a very good purchase!.

Today, Gen Johnson came home to Sunderland after a year in Canada. She walked in the pub and my whole body tingled. She sat with me for most of the night. We chatted and exchanged insults towards each other. It was just like old times. My beloved Genbear is home.

When we got to Dan's we played Star Wars Monopoly. I took voluntary bankruptcy to help out Michael (the guy in the striped shirt) by giving him my property, which he then threw in my face by selling up.

This is a daily sight for me. Since i'm sat at my desk most of the time, my window ledge has now become storage. Pain, brushes, candles and my change jar is my new landscape.

Just a quick shot while waiting for my bus home. Rain really looks good in black and white photographs.

I've got this whole idea in my head about reflections. The rain formed this great puddle near my seat. A quick snap just to test things out. It lost detail when I converted it to black and white. So colour it is.

Sean took me to the lake in Killingworth today. The swans there were beautiful and very willing to come up close. There must have been about 40+ swans just sat around. This is straight from the camera, the water was stunning due to the perfectly clear blue sky and amazing sunlight.

Believe it or not, this is again straight from the camera. The light had started to fade causing everything to look grey. The water started running forming weird and interesting shapes. That and the colour of the slate made for a good image.

I am convinced this woman is Lady GaGa in disguise. She was beautiful, with an amazing style.

This guy actually asked me to take this picture, he was pretty cool. I like it when people are willing to get their picture taken.

This picture is possibly one of my favourite from today. He was so calm and didn't even bother moving from the group of bankers heading towards him. Pretty cool.

Just arrived in the hotel. The light in this room is pretty amazing. I have a huge ceiling to floor window, pretty much a wall of glass, on the 15th floor. Gonna be an awesome view later tonight with all the lights of Canary Wharf!.

While waiting for my bus home, I noticed the two guys stood in the door way to our local Job Seekers Centre. I could just hear their conversation over the traffic and found it quite interesting, until it suddenly took a contrasting flip. They were talking about the state of the country and how money is wasted and they have to que up every two weeks to claim benefits as there's no job for them. Just as they finished, the guy in the light jacket threw more than half of a cigarette to the ground and continued to throw away half a bottle of fizzy drink and a baguette from the local bakery. It's contradictory actions like that which makes me wonder why certain people complain about the problem. They are the problem. I have full respect for people who are claiming, who are actually looking for work and saving money. But people who purposely waste things seriously annoy me.

Every time I meet up with Sean, we'll end up in some drinking establishment. This picture was taken in Gotham Town. Since i've decided to give up drinking, I only had a few drinks all day. One of them was Bulmbers new cider. It wasn't as nice as I thought. Sean is a beautiful person, even though he doesn't agree.

Sunday saw a new start for Michael, his first ever house from home. He moved in with some college friends and one of my dear friends, Robyn. His housemates decided to throw him a moving in party which was themed Hawaiian (hence Michael's cheesy shirt). Michael keeps telling me to not take pictures below his head level, but wanted to prove that he could still look acceptable if i did. I think he's pulled it off quite well.

For as long as I can remember, Joplins has always been a regular bus boarding location. It just so happens that most of the bus customers in that area are the elderly. I think it has something to do with the way they go around town and it being close to a post office. I decided to get my bus home from their to try and get some shots of the people in a que. I got in quite close with my 50mm lens which they didn't seem too bothered by. The woman on the right even asked if I wanted her to pose.

My first time of drinking inside Union Rooms. I've only ever drank in their beer garden area. We sat upstairs near the back which has these beautiful old windows. They're huge which lets in the most amazing light. There's big tall oak's outside the window which blocks and shades the sun causing great lines of light inside the room. It made for a great picture. The details in the wood and the sun causing natural contrast amazed my when looking at the image post shoot.

Jacob Mathieson has always been one of the most handsome guys I know. He's got a face which I consider beautiful and when photographed, makes a great image. I shot this in the studio against a very dark green background which when light produced a nice gradient behind him. I used two lights on the background and one on the subject in the foreground. All three had soft box's attached. When shooting portraits I personally like to get in close and crop the shoulders just inside the frame. I'm not too bothered about getting the whole head in unless they have a defining feature which should be in frame.

While walking past central station and the hotel next door, I noticed this guy coming out of the bar below. He instantly caught my attention, i'd recently been looking at the suit in a catalogue. It's not often you see a man in an Armani suit smoking a cigar on the streets of Newcastle. I got my camera out and combusted the image. I wanted to get closer, but then i'd loose the important lines of the image (the lamp post and the horizontal strip of grey). I shot the picture without flash since the sun was shining. After the shutter fired, I noticed the guy had a very angry expression. He came over and complained that I was invading his personal space and demanded I delete the image. After explaining that I had legal rights to keep the image he shot some profanity my way and walked off with a questionable look on his face.

Sunderland's central station recently invested in some visual arts in the form of large scale light installations. They're triggered to transition on and off to produce a silhouette of people walking up and down the platform. This lady watched the art for a few minutes, I finally decided to snap a picture of her. Turns out it was one of my favourite shots of the day.

Day 1 of my new DSLR and my Dad mistakenly falls asleep with me in the room. What a fool he is. My reputation as a camera nazi is well known in my family. It was a shot i'd have been stupid to pass up. The light coming through the window was perfect. I used a bounced flash to get the detail in the shirt and leather of the sofa, not the best, but it's acceptable for a snap shot incident.

I have this thing for taking pictures while i'm waiting for the bus. It seems to be a routine to snap the trees in front of me and whoever is at the stand with me. Since I don't want to interfere with their lives or annoy them at such an early time, i'll use my phone rather than my DSLR. I prefer to use the Instagram app for this since the built in editing options bring out the colours best.

Since i'm a frequent regular on nights out in Sunderland, I might as well make the most of the friendships and relationships and get some portraits done. These were taken using my iPhone and the Instagram app. Dan has quite a presence when in front of a camera, and Miss Trixie, well, the image speaks for itself. She's quite powerful and such a hoot to photograph.

This shot of Dan wasn't planned. I was shooting him with clown dress up on, after the shoot was done while he was washing I set up the ring flash and had a mess on with April and Abigail. Dan jumped in and I pushed the shutter. The skin tone I love, and for some strange reason, the lights don't show up loads in his eyes.

I don't know why I love these so much. I shot the beach through disposable cameras which cost me £2 with £1 development. The light was much brighter than this, but the film brought it down loads. I love how the metal looks on the top image. It's a shame that they've replaced all of them with wooden benches.
